Here at AEL Tuition our specialised and uniquely tailored GCSE English Language course aims to broaden horizons, unveil the depth of the English language and foster a passion for reading and critical engagement, through a proven and carefully crafted study of texts across the 19th, 20th and 21st century.

Breakdown and our plan for your child

Through a dynamic teaching approach, we cover the English Language qualification wholistically, from fictional studies in paper one to paper two non-fiction, ensuring assured development in all components of each paper: reading and writing. We balance this approach through a termly focus on each paper. Term one focuses on the paper one component, with term two focusing on paper two; thus, leading to term three which balances the teaching of both papers with the perfecting of exam methodology and revision

Weekly set reading to get those creative juices flowing. We not only recommend a list of novels to read, but provide weekly short stories from a range of fascinating genres sure to reignite our students’ creative spark and fostering a confidence intheir ability to produce exceptional creative writing (50% of their GCSE grade!)

Weekly creative writing homework, both fictional story/descriptive writing and transactional writing, with detailed written feedback and GCSE style grading. Marks are recorded, tracked and monitored with parents notified of progress.

Expertly teaching our students how to analyse language methods and analyse a wide range of extracts perceptively. Understanding the use of technical and subject specific terminology through weekly practise of exam questions and group analysis.

We ensure our inclusive and specialised small group classes are both dynamic and engaging, with the utmost priority of ensuring students achieve the highest grades. Through the study of canonical writers such as Charles Dickens, Conan Doyle, Thomas Hardy and more contemporary works of modern novelists, we prepare students for all aspects of the English Language examination, fostering confidence, passion and a matured writing ability which they will no doubt carry forth through their educational journey.
